Math Rangers
Ages 6–12  /  350 print-ready trail maps

Your child follows the steps perfectly — then has no idea what to do when the problem looks different

That’s not a math problem. It’s understanding — and it’s the reason the gaps quietly compound, grade after grade.

A real trail map page from The Math Rangers Club

A real page · Making Ten · Grade 1 · standard 1.OA.6

350 trail maps across the 6 grades of US elementary math — adding and subtracting, place value, fractions, measuring, data and shapes. Each map shows what one idea actually means before it ever asks for an answer. Then two practice pages to make it stick.

  • Looks like a map, not a worksheet
  • Zero prep
  • Print & hand over
Trail marker 01 — sound familiar?

“He can do a whole page of them. Then the teacher writes it sideways, or puts the blank in the middle, and he’s completely stuck — like he’s never seen it before.”

Trail marker 02 — why it keeps happening

A child who memorises steps can only answer the question they were shown. A child who understands the idea can answer a question nobody showed them.

Drills build the first kind. Maps build the second.

The problem

Does this sound like your child?

×Gets the right answer but can’t tell you how they got there
×Still counting on fingers long after the class moved on
×Freezes on a word problem because they can’t tell which operation it wants
×Homework needs you sitting right there, every night
×Has already decided “I’m just not a math person”
What changes

Here’s what changes in just a few weeks

Reaches for a strategy instead of ten fingers
Explains their thinking out loud — the map gave them the words for it
Reads a word problem and knows what it’s asking before touching the numbers
Recognises a familiar idea even when it’s written a new way
Works through a page on their own — no hovering required
Stops dreading math, because it finally makes sense instead of just being hard
No tutor required

You don’t have to remember how you were taught math.

That’s the part most parents dread — the methods changed, and helping with homework turns into an argument about whose way is right. You don’t need to relearn any of it. Open a trail map, hand it over, and let your Ranger walk it. The map does the explaining. That’s the whole system.

How it works

350 maps, ready to go. Here’s all you do:

Printing today's trail map at home
Open a trail map

Pick today’s idea. No planning, no lesson to prepare.

Handing a trail map to a child at the kitchen table
Hand it over

Print it, or have them work straight from a notebook.

A child working through a trail map on their own
Let them walk the trail

Six stops, in order. By the last one they’ve seen the idea, used it, and been warned about the mistake everyone makes.

Two finished practice pages side by side
Two practice pages, same idea

One with help, one on their own — so it sticks instead of evaporating by Thursday.

Why it works

Why a map, and not another page of drills

Drills make a child faster at the thing they already do. If they get to the answer by counting, a hundred more problems just makes them a faster counter — and hides the gap for another year. What actually moves a child forward is seeing why the shortcut works: that 8 + 5 is easier if you build a ten first, that subtraction is just addition with a hole in it, that a fraction bar and a number line say the same thing. Every map is built around one of those ideas, mapped to the standard your child’s school is actually teaching to. Not a random pile of worksheets slapped together over a weekend.

Six stops on every trail

A map isn’t a poster of facts. It’s a route with six stops, and each stop does one job a child can feel:

The signpost

What this idea is, and why it is worth knowing.

The lookout

See it. A ten-frame, a bar model, a number line — the picture that makes it obvious.

The bridge

How you cross it, step by numbered step.

The cave

Take it apart. The idea broken into the pieces it is really made of.

The campfire

Worked examples, finished all the way through. Nothing left as an exercise.

The danger sign

The mistake almost every child makes here, shown wrong and then shown right — before they make it on a test.

That last stop is the one no drill sheet has. A warning sign on a real trail doesn’t explain the cliff after you have fallen off it.

Inside the kit

Every module opens the same way

Your child is told how the book works before anything asks them for an answer — so nobody has to guess what to do with it.

Six modules

One module per grade, first through sixth

Your child doesn’t outgrow this in a term — they grow into it. And if you have two kids three years apart, you already own the right module for both.

This kit is for you if…

Your child is 6–12 (grades 1–6) and can do the steps, but doesn’t really understand them
You want them working independently, not needing you for every worksheet
You’re tired of paying for tutoring or workbooks that don’t move the needle
You want something ready to use today, with zero planning on your part
You’d rather fix the gap now than watch it turn into “I’m bad at math”
You teach — a classroom, a tutoring group, or your own kids at home. Classroom use is included at no extra cost

All those months of building and testing 350 maps could’ve made this a lot more expensive. We’d rather it end up in as many hands as possible.

You have two paths right now

Keep waiting

Another year of “I don’t get it,” more nights sitting beside them for every assignment, and a gap that gets harder to close every grade it survives.

Start today

Tonight, after dinner, you print one map and slide it across the table. No lecture, no bargaining — just a trail to walk. That’s where it starts making sense.

You already know which path closes the gap.

A note from the people who built this

We built The Math Rangers Club because of one sentence we kept hearing: “She can do it when I’m sitting next to her. On her own, she has no idea where to start.”

That gap is almost never about effort. It’s that the child learned a procedure without ever seeing the idea underneath it — so the moment the problem is worded differently, there is nothing to fall back on. More drills don’t fix that. They just make the same misunderstanding faster.

So we didn’t make another stack of worksheets. We made maps. One idea per page, drawn the way a child can actually see it, with a warning sign at the exact spot where kids fall off. Same math their school is teaching. Completely different feeling about sitting down to do it.

If your child can follow the steps but freezes when the problem changes, start with the first trail and see what happens.

30DAYS

30-Day Trail-Tested Guarantee

Take a full 30 days. Print the maps, hand them over, watch what actually happens at your kitchen table. If your Ranger isn’t getting it, message us and we’ll refund 100% of your money — no questions, no hoops. A month, not a few days, because you shouldn’t have to decide before your child has really used it. The risk is ours, not yours.

Before you decide

Frequently asked questions

It’s delivered instantly. As soon as your payment goes through, you’ll get an email with your download link — print the first map today if you want.

Yes. Every map is built on the US elementary standards, grade by grade — the same ones your child’s school teaches to. Each map names the standard it covers, so if a teacher mentions a skill your child is struggling with, you can find the matching map instead of guessing.

You get all six grades, so it fits now and it still fits in three years. Start where your child’s understanding actually is today, not where their grade says it should be — and you don’t have to guess. The Placement Check is included free and finds the real starting point in a few minutes. If they’re in fourth grade but the gap is a third-grade fraction idea, that’s where you begin.

You don’t need to teach it at all — the map does the explaining. And when you do want to help, Every Answer, Worked Out shows the full working for every practice page, so you can follow the method your child is being taught rather than the one you remember.

Not at all. Print only the maps you need, or have your child work straight from a notebook — whatever’s easiest for you.

Yes — 100%. Teachers, tutors and homeschooling families are free to print and use every map with the students they teach, year after year, at no extra cost. One purchase covers your own classroom.

You’re covered by our 30-day guarantee. If it’s not a fit, just message us and we’ll refund you in full, no questions asked.

Checkout is fully secure, and you get instant access to your download — no waiting.
